Savings rate calculator
Your savings rate is the percentage of income you save rather than spend during a period. Formula: (Income − Expenses) ÷ Income × 100.
Why it matters
Savings rate is one of the clearest indicators of financial progress — easier to track than absolute dollars alone.
How it works in LifesOS
- 1. Enter total income for the period
- 2. Enter total expenses
- 3. View savings rate percentage
- 4. Track over time in LifesOS Finance
Example
Income $5,000, expenses $3,750 → savings $1,250 → savings rate 25%.
Formula
Savings rate = (Income − Expenses) ÷ Income × 100
Savings rate: 25%
Common questions
What is a good savings rate?
It depends on goals and income. Many planners suggest 15–20%+ for long-term wealth building, but context matters.
Gross or net income?
Be consistent. Many people use take-home (net) income for personal budgeting.
